Crete Escape: Sunsets, Iconic Views, and Unforgettable Moments
After years of city breaks, we finally took the plunge into a slower-paced, sun-drenched getaway to Crete, Greece, staying at the stunningly relaxing Aqua Blu Hotel in Anissaras. This trip was all about relaxation, so I wasn’t focused on photographing everything—but I couldn’t resist capturing some of the island’s most beautiful spots and Capturing Crete along the way. The stunning views from Santorini’s Oia and Fira are as picture-perfect as you’d expect, and a few surprise stops added to the adventure. Crete was refreshingly affordable too—a bonus! Although the heat reached 34°C, I managed with just a hand lanyard for my camera, leaving the bulky backpack behind. The slower pace was a welcome change, and I hope you’ll enjoy this visual snapshot of Crete and beyond.
Chania
We couldn’t miss a trip to Chania. This charming town on Crete’s northern coast is packed with Venetian architecture, bustling markets, and a harbourfront perfect for a relaxing stroll. Though we only had a short visit, Chania’s colourful buildings and unique vibe left an impression.
Heraklion
A visit to Heraklion added a touch of history to our trip. This vibrant capital of Crete offered a mix of modern shops and ancient architecture. The Venetian fortress and lively port area made for a fascinating stop that balanced Crete’s past and present.
Santorini - Oia
Oia’s whitewashed buildings and deep blue domes create one of Greece’s most iconic views. Standing by the Church of Agios Georgios was a serene moment, capturing the beauty of Santorini’s cliffs and coastline.
Santorini - Fira
In Fira, the sweeping caldera views and vibrant colours were mesmerizing. Every terrace seemed to frame the Aegean perfectly, and capturing this dreamlike setting was a must.
Mitsis Laguna Resort & Spa
An interesting twist to our stay was discovering that a friend had stayed earlier in the year at the Mitsis Laguna Hotel next door! Although they weren’t there during our visit, I couldn’t resist capturing a photo of the elegant building with its distinctive design, which added a unique touch to the collection.
Sunset in Anissaras
The sunsets in Anissaras were the perfect end to each day, with the sky aglow in shades of pink and purple. This peaceful scene encapsulated the relaxing charm of Crete’s coast.
Final Impressions of Crete
Crete proved to be the ideal place to unwind, combining beautiful sights, incredible local food, and a slower pace that was long overdue. From Heraklion’s history to Santorini’s iconic views, this trip was a chance to experience both the relaxation and charm of Greece’s island life.
Stay tuned for more photographic adventures, and as always, keep exploring and capturing the world through your lens.
